Getting Started:
Find simple designs that have a medieval theme, such as shields, crowns, and swords for example. Draw or photocopy the designs to the size of your choice. Place a piece of Mylar over each one, and carve out the designs
with an exacto knife. Design the pattern you wish to have on the rug on a piece of paper first, then transfer it onto the rug, keeping the same proportions.
Spray the back of one of the stencils with spray adhesive, then position it in its designated area in the pattern. Stipple the paint onto the stencil using a normal paint brush. Carry on the same way with all of the stencils.
Once the stencilling is complete, the paint must be heat-set. Hold a hair dryer (on high heat) over the painted areas to set the paint. It is a good idea to hold onto your stencils, in case you wish to touch up the
rug as it fades with wear and tear over the years. [main] [faux stone wall] [dry-brushed walls]
