Getting Started:
Give the statue a base coat of black paint. Leave to dry. Apply Goldsize all over the statue (as well as in cracks) with an artist's brush. Leave to dry until very sticky to the touch (about 1 hour).
Making sure your hands are very dry, carefully pick up a sheet of silver leaf and place it onto the statue. If it breaks in places, you can take scraps of silver leafing and fill in the gaps.
Smooth the silver leafing onto the statue, and leave the piece to dry. Once the goldsize is dry, you can start brushing off all the flaking pieces with a very soft brush.
To tarnish or age the piece, dip a rag into some gray stain, and pat it gently all over the statue, dabbing with a dry cloth to remove any excess. Varnish the piece, and leave to dry. [main] [faux stone wall] [dry-brushed walls]
